It was the weekend. The girls slept until their bodies woke them up naturally.
Once everyone was up, only Xia Rou was left sleeping.
“Lazy bum, wake up! It’s time to shop!” Zhuang Xiao climbed up and patted her. “Hm? Xia Rou, why is your face so red?”
Once she touched her face, she was shocked. “You have a fever!”
Xia Rou had only managed to fall asleep once the sun rose. Now that she had been woken up by Zhuang Xiao, she only felt weak and powerless. Her head didn’t feel so good.
She said, “I feel sick, you guys go on without me.” Translated by The Novelst
The ladies could only leave her in the dorm. Zhuang Xiao poured a cup of water for her to drink and before she left the room, she urged, “Go get some medicine from the school doctor. Remember to drink water!”
Xia Rou responded weakly and waited until her roommates left. She didn’t move again, continuing to lie on the bed half asleep and half awake. Her eyes were closed and she had a dream, lustrous and dazzling.
Her phone suddenly vibrated. She tried to reach it, blindly patting at her shelves, then brought it down to look.
It was Cao Yang.
Xia Rou stared at Cao Yang’s photo on the screen, handsome and smiling in his uniform, leaning on the french window. She was silent for a while and declined the call.
She closed her eyes and continued to dream.
In a moment, the familiar voice of the dorm auntie came from the walkie talkie above the door: “Xia Rou from room number 427, Xia Rou from room number 427, your brother is here to pick you up.”
She opened her eyes.
This time, Cao Yang didn’t have the patience to chat with the dorm auntie.
The night before, Xia Rou had been frightened by him and had run away, but he didn’t chase her. He gave her time to understand, digest the situation, and calm down.
Given what happened last night, he knew she definitely wouldn’t go shopping with her roommates, so he had come to pick her up.
Just as he expected, she was still in her dorm.
“Young boy! Young boy!” The dorm auntie knocked on the glass window. “You can’t smoke here!”
Cao Yang blew out a mouthful of smoke and pinched off a cigarette butt to throw into the trash can.
When he turned back around, he saw Xia Rou with her bag, standing at the corner of the stairs and looking at him.
He raised his head to look at her.
The air was still for that moment.
Xia Rou lowered her eyes and walked down the last few steps.
Cao Yang walked up the steps to meet her and take her bag. He saw her face was a rosy red like the begonia flowers he saw at the entrance just now.
Cao Yang furrowed his brows and touched her forehead and cheeks. She was hot.
“How did you get a fever?” he furrowed his brows.
“I caught a cold yesterday,” Xia Rou said.
Yesterday. It was probably something to do with him.
Cao Yang lifted the bag and grabbed her arm and said, “Let’s go home.”
Xia Rou moved her arm and couldn’t pull it from his grasp. She let out a, “Mn,” and her eyes were pointed downwards as she let him pull her along.
The dorm auntie looked at the pair of siblings leaving. Sunflower seeds in her mouth, she said to another auntie, “That family has really good genes. Both brother and sister look so nice, the only thing is that they don’t look alike.”
After chatting a little more, she continued to eat sunflower seeds while watching a drama since there weren’t many people out and about on the weekends.
Knock knock knock. Someone tapped at the glass window. The auntie turned her head to see another handsome guy who looked familiar. Good looking people were remembered easily.
“Auntie,” he smiled kindly, “I’m looking for Xia Rou, room number 427.”
“Oh, 427…” The dorm auntie was in the middle of punching in the numbers before responding, “Xia Rou from room 427, huh. Just now her brother came to bring her home.”
Wei Qi was a little disappointed. He thanked her and left the dorm building, taking out his phone to dial Xia Rou’s number.
Cao Yang threw the bag in the backseat and stuffed Xia Rou into the passenger seat. He said, “Wait here, let me buy some medicine.” The car door shut with a bang.
There was a pharmacy right across from the entrance of the school.
Xia Rou’s eyes followed his figure as he crossed the road and went into the store. Then she lost focus, spacing out.
The driver side door opened up suddenly and Xia Rou was so surprised she trembled for a moment. She lifted her gaze to see Cao Yang look at her from the open door…
When he returned, he saw her spacing out through the window. When he pulled the door open, her eyes as she looked at him were filled with terror.
Unlike in the past – whenever she saw him, her joyous smile would bloom on her face.
Even he… had to pay the price of not being able to control his own impulsive actions.
Cao Yang did not say anything, closing the car door and handing the medicine over to her. He opened a bottle of water and also passed that to her.
Xia Rou quietly downed the medicine.
On the road, neither occupant said anything, the car was so quiet that the atmosphere was damp.
Xia Rou’s phone vibrated some time into their drive.
Xia Rou glanced at the display and declined the call.
Cao Yang glanced at her. “Wei Qi?”
“Mm…” Xia Rou lowered her head.
Cao Yang gripped the steering wheel hard.
Xia Rou was feverish, she was nearly unable to sleep for the whole night. Her head ached badly and she leaned back, eyes closed, thinking about Wei Qi.
Wei Qi ah… Translated by The Novelst
What should… she do…
When the car was stopped at a red light, Cao Yang turned his head to look at her. She was asleep.
Her eyes were closed and the red on her face didn’t look so unnatural now.
He stretched his hand out to touch her face. It was still a little hot.
He combed the hair on her forehead and looked at her for a while. Once the car behind him started to honk, he shifted into gear and continued to drive.
