Mu Rulan was in the bath, the glazed window obscured by white mist. Only a blurry figure could be seen to be moving around.
Bai Suqing walked into Mu Rulan’s room. The white decorations looked comfortable, and the display case embedded into the wall had all sorts of puppets on display, looking very beautiful.
Bai Suqing stood in front of that display for a while, just staring. Just when she started to inch toward opening the glass window to touch one of the puppets, her gaze was suddenly drawn to an open book left on top of the desk beside her. There seemed to be a letter inside of it.
Bai Suqing walked to the desk to take a closer look. She paused to confirm that the water was still running in the bathroom before pulling out the letter. It was an invitation that looked different to what the other girls had received. The contents were written personally by Ou Kaicheng himself.
Birthday, huh… Translated by The Novelst
Bai Suqing held onto the card, remembering receiving an invitation herself. Ou Kaicheng hadn’t even looked at her. Then she looked at Mu Rulan’s invitation again, her fingers curling so tightly around the card that it wrinkled.
Suddenly the sound of water from the bathroom stopped.
Bai Suqing’s heart jumped a second, before she quickly crumpled the card and shoved it into her pocket.
The bathroom door opened to let out a bunch of mist. Mu Rulan was drying her hair with a towel as she came out.
“Sister,” shouted Bai Suqing.
“Hm?” Mu Rulan raised her head to look at Bai Suqing. “Qing Qing, do you need something?”
Bai Suqing shook her head. “Nothing, I just feel suddenly lonely because the house is so quiet without Rusen and Rulin around. I feel weird.”
“There’s nothing weird about it. Rusen and Rulin also sometimes hang out with their friend,” Mu Rulan replied, smiling. She walked to her bed and sat down
Bai Suqing stared at Mu Rulan’s skin, feeling a little jealous. Although her skin wasn’t bad, it couldn’t compare to Mu Rulan’s. When her parents were still around, Bai Suqing had bathed in milk once a week and took care of all the skin on her body.
So she asked, “Sister, your skin is so smooth. What skincare do you use?”
Mu Rulan heard this and her smile deepened. “Really? Uhm… I use a secret recipe. Qing Qing, you can’t tell anyone about this, okay?”
Bai Suqing nodded, but inside she was filled with disdain. Hmph, secret recipe? Wasn’t it only because your family was so rich, so you’ve been pampered since youth? Acting all mysterious.
“All you have to do is keep yourself happy, that’s all,” Mu Rulan spun her finger in a circle, winking playfully at Bai Suqing.
Just when Bai Suqing wanted to act in concordance and give her a smile, she heard her continue, “Speaking of which, I have ways to retain a person’s youth eternally.” Mu Rulan’s gaze went past Bai Suqing’s neck and stopped at her display case.
Bai Suqing was too lazy to continue on such a meaningless topic with Mu Rulan, so she simply changed the subject: “Sister, you’re so good at everything you do. Anyway, are Rusen and Yaya Tongxue really dating?”
“What’s wrong?” Mu Rulan raised her brows.
Bai Suqing seemed to become a bit timid, looking at her carefully: “Sister, you don’t like seeing Rusen and Yaya date, right?”
Mu Rulan didn’t change her expression. “Not really.”
Bai Suqing shook her head firmly. “Sister, you must have disliked seeing them together. Both you and Rusen are so close, just like a couple. Now that Rusen suddenly has a girlfriend who takes so much of his attention, you must feel unhappy.”
Mu Rulan found it funny and shook her head softly. “What nonsense are you speaking, Qing Qing? Why are you speaking so strangely? Rusen and I are siblings, how can what you say be true? Are you reading too many novels?”
“But sister and Rusen really look like a couple, even your faces look alike. Mn! I just really like the couple face.”
Mu Rulan gave out a light laugh. “You’re still speaking nonsense. Rusen and I are siblings, of course we look alike.”
“That’s enough.” The second before, Mu Rulan had been smiling, but she suddenly turned serious. This majesty, generated from her many years as a superior figure in Liu Silan, shocked Bai Suqing.
“This kind of joke is better not to continue saying. Even if nobody tells you how your words might affect the family’s reputation, you yourself should know that this is not something to joke about. You shouldn’t take society’s morals so lightly.”
Bai Suqing lowered her head: “I’m sorry…”
“It’s alright, just don’t do it again,” replied Mu Rulan lightly.
“Mn, then I… don’t want to bother you more. Goodnight.”
The white door shut softly behind her. Bai Suqing leaned on the door, her pale face turning immediately to reveal a scary darkness before she smiled, cold and pleased. She took out a small recorder from her pocket.
Though she wasn’t able to lure out the conversation she’d wanted, it was already enough for her to use this to create a rift between Zhou Yaya and Mu Rulan! She didn’t forget what kind of person Zhou Yaya was!
Mu Rulan stared at the closed door, her face still displaying a warm smile. She hummed softly, walking to the display to open the glass window.
Mu Rulan’s finger carded softly through the cute puppets, finally coming to a stop in front of a little green snake puppet. This little snake had many joints that could each be disassembled.
Mu Rulan moved her fingers to take off the joints, one by one. The center of two joints were hollow, but couldn’t be opened without tools, so she skipped it and started at the tail.
She then took out a small screwdriver to spin off the screw that connected the two hollow joints. Inside was empty. When Mu Rulan had purchased this from the store, the owner had told her she could give a surprise to the person who would receive this present.
A surprise, huh…
She liked giving surprises the most.
Mu Rulan smiled even deeper, taking out a vitamin bottle from her bookcase and opening it up to pour out the contents…
A white ball that looked like a golf ball fell into her hands.
She poured again…
There went another. Translated by The Novelst
Mu Rulan used her fingers to pick up the two balls. Black, rounded shapes on the balls were illuminated under the lights. They looked like human eyes, but didn’t have pupils, because… the pupils were the entirety of the iris. These were eyes for the dead.
This had belonged to a corpse that didn’t have eyes, which was why Mo Qianren couldn’t determine whether it was a corpse or a human puppet.
Without the eyes, it was no longer Mu Rulan’s favorite human puppet. She could only throw it away. But the problem was where to throw such a thing away, and these two eyeballs…
Mu Rulan smiled as she placed the two eyeballs inside the hollow joints of the snake’s body. Mn, it was perfectly suited for this, as if it was designed to hold these two eyeballs.
Slowly, she reassembled the snake, taking out beautiful wrapping paper to wrap it inside a box. She then took out another silvery-blue ribbon and tied a bow. A beautifully packaged present had been prepared. She placed the wrapped box back into the display case. The clear window couldn’t block the stiff smiles of the cute puppets…
