Mu Rulan brought some fresh ingredients out in the kitchen and hummed a song, in a good mood.
She prepared three types of meat: fish, beef, and pork. She also took out ginger, shallots, garlic and bean drums to thaw.
She almost forgot that Mo Qianren was harder to feed than most. He was such a picky eater that he would probably pick out all the seasoning later, but without the seasoning the fish and the beef would taste fishy and bad. She thought the ingredients would go really well together.
Being a picky eater was a bad habit that he would work on.
Mu Rulan smiled and took up the sharp knife to start making swift, neat cuts.
Zhou Fu heard noise from the kitchen and ran into Mu Rulan preparing dishes. She was surprised. “Miss, are you preparing lunch?”
Mu Rulan smiled at her. “Yes.” Translated by The Novelst
“Miss, you just got out of the hospital. Shouldn’t you be resting? Sister Li is coming soon. You should let her do this. Are you hungry now? I’ll call Sister Li right now…” Zhou Fu ran out and called for Sister Li to come and make lunch.
“I’m fine. I was only in the hospital for smoke inhalation, so it’s not like it was a serious disease or surgery. I have been recovered for a while now,” she smiled. “Uncle Zhou can relax. I have a guest coming over soon. I wanted to make him something to eat.”
Zhou Fu was surprised. She wanted to make him something to eat? That… that sentence could be easily misinterpreted. This person… Could it be a boy? As he thought, his expression changed a little. Could it be that the miss was deceived by some punk?
Mo Qianren didn’t let Zhou Fu wait for long. The pigeon flew into the Mu residence and shortly after, Mo Qianren parked in front of the metal gates. Zhou Fu saw the unfamiliar car and knew immediately that this was the guest. As he walked to the car, he tried to peek inside as he opened the door, curious about who it was.
Mo Qianren’s 186-centimeter frame came out of the car. His long legs and good temperament were comparable to those of the Ke and Huo families. He seemed to have a good background.
With only some doubt left in his mind, Zhou Fu welcomed Mo Qianren into the house. He also brought him some tea and continued to observe him closely. When Mu Rulan heard them, she came out of the kitchen and said gently, “Uncle Zhou, you can go ahead and have lunch first. I will call for you when I need you.”
Zhou Fu could only leave, thinking that when Ke Wanqing returned, he would inform her of thi sman who seemed to be no worse than those of the Huo Family. But it was better to investigate first: Zhou Fu had no idea that Ke Wanqing had already told Chen Hai to ask the Ke Family to look into Mo Qianren, and the results were not ideal.
As Zhou Fu left, Mu Rulan’s gentle smile became even brighter. “Mr. Mo, sit tight for a while. I’m not done yet.”
Mu Rulan didn’t wait for a response and left.
Mo Qianren looked around the living room and went to the kitchen to stand at the door. He leaned back and stared at the girl in pleasure. Even though it was just her back, she was still extremely charming and attractive, like something that glowed naturally in the night.
She was cute as she hummed a song, ignoring any tune or melody and enjoying her own music alone, like a dummy.
Mo Qianren grinned unconsciously and walked over. “Need any help?”
Mu Rulan turned her head around to see him and his injured finger. She shook her head. “It’s alright. I can do this. Do you have anything you really want to eat, Mr. Mo? Tell me and I will think about if I will make it for you.”
“Qianren,” said Mo Qianren suddenly.
“Huh?” Mu Rulan froze.
“Say my name,” he said softly, the tips of his ears turning red.
Mu Rulan thought about his serious attitude and extreme calm as he spoke. But his shyness was exposed by his ears. How cute.
Her eyes changed to crescents and she said, “Then, you can call me by name as well,”
“Mm,” his ear tips became an even brighter red.
“Why don’t you give it a try?” Mu Rulan said, blinking innocently. “Call me Lan Lan.”
Mo Qianren stared silently as the heat from his ears radiated.
“Qianren?” Mu Rulan blinked cutely.
“…Mu Rulan, stop wasting time,” The man with bright-red ears said coldly. His tone was a sharp contrast to the color of his ears. It made Mu Rulan want to make fun of him.
“Calling out full names makes it feel distant. Lan Lan is much better,” she said, turning her head around in disappointment.
Mo Qianren stared in silence at Mu Rulan’s back.
He walked over and stood behind Mu Rulan, stretching his arm to take the knife from her hand. They felt the warmth from each other’s hands at that moment. A refreshingly minty fragrance and warmth blended together as their hands touched. As usual, Mu Rulan’s hand was warm while Mo Qianren’s was a little cold.
“Let me,” Mo Qianren said, his voice sharp and rumbling in her ear. A body that hadn’t seemed that wide or tough suddenly blocked Mu Rulan. Translated by The Novelst
Before she could say anything, she was drawn to the deftness of his actions: aggressive movements paired with skillful knifework, beef turning into slices of the same width under his blade. Mo Qianren maintained that cutting meat with a knife was much easier than performing surgery.
“Amazing!” Mu Rulan was taken aback, forgetting for a second that she was still in his embrace. Seeing him slice skillfully through the beef, she pointed at the pork. “Cut that also.” Mu Rulan wasn’t done admiring his work. Could she have met an expert?
And so once Mo Qianren finished prepping the pork, he naturally brought the fish over to cook.
Mu Rulan stared at him, blinking a few times. She laughed softly. How interesting: he was truly interesting and being with him felt very good. He was her lucky star; he had saved her from so many accidents already.
“Alright, you can leave the rest to me,” Mu Rulan said, folding her sleeves back and picking up the spatula.
Mo Qianren washed his hands and wiped them clean to watch her from the side.
Something had changed between them. He wasn’t simply a criminal psychologist that refused to let her go, and she wasn’t a scary, perverted killer any longer. Inside that kitchen, Mo Qianren was only Mo Qianren, and Mu Rulan was only Mu Rulan.
